Lucy Garcia

Lucy Garcia, MSW

Lucy Garcia, MSW has worked with the Latino community since the 1990’s. As a Spanish teacher, she saw children using drugs and alcohol, and she decided to work at SWFAS Prevention Department where she implemented the Life Skills Program for people coming out of jail to help them reintegrate into the community. Lucy also worked with women in recovery to become self-sufficient. Lucy has provided counseling groups for court mandated clients with domestic violence, anger management, and driving under the influence. As a volunteer for Abuse Counseling and Treatment (ACT), she provided crisis counseling for the Spanish speaking rape victims. Lucy is also a Bereavement Counselor.

While in graduate school, Lucy founded the Organización Internacional de Latinos en el Exterior (O.I.L.E), whose mission is to improve the quality of life of Latinos in the Southwest Florida area through educational programs and counseling services. As a mental health provider, Lucy uses various theoretical approaches such as Strength-based, CBT, Self-efficacy, Empowerment, and Solution Focus.

Dr. Carolyn Daniels, PhD, LCSW

Dr. Carolyn Daniels, PhD, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, certified thanatologist, and expressive arts facilitator with extensive expertise in trauma- and grief-informed care. She holds a PhD and MSW from Barry University and a BS in Community Services from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. As a clinical social work educator, Dr. Daniels integrates trauma, grief, and expressive arts into graduate-level coursework, emphasizing experiential learning, reflective practice, and person-centered care. Her scholarship and presentations focus on the intersection of grief, trauma, and healing in both clinical and community contexts.

Dr. Daniels currently serves as a board member for Healing Stitches in Fort Myers, Florida, where she helps guide the organization’s strategic direction and brings her clinical expertise to trauma-informed, expressive arts-based programming. She leads workshops focused on self-care, nervous system regulation, and resilience-building for underserved communities and nonprofit professionals, furthering the mission of accessible healing through creative and compassionate engagement.

Genelle G. Grant, Ed.D.

Genelle G. Grant, Ed.D.

Genelle G. Grant, Ed.D. is a founding director of OILE and is the President of Femina Global, Inc. Since 1993, Genelle has worked with Maya and Latina women in Southwest Florida and guided art and therapy groups (in Spanish) for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence. She leads mural painting projects, organizes Period Festivals in collaboration with Maasika Mahatsov of India, and brings reusable menstrual pads and Fertility Bracelets made by hundreds of SWFL volunteers to women in Guatemala, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

Since 2005 she has traveled bi-annually to Guatemala with volunteer groups, to collaborate in workshops on teaching methodologies and reproductive health with the Guatemala Ministry of Education, women’s cooperatives, indigenous rights organizations, the national Midwives Association and in the vocational college led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Rigoberta Menchu Tum
